The mountain lion sisters, Louisa and Marissa, enjoy stalking TCWR staff and guests! They are very full of energy and curiosity. The young cougar girls often "coo," "purr," and "chirp" at their "prey" (any humans who come near their enclosure), as if in attempt to lure them into a false sense of security before charging or pouncing!
You can see them crouch in their night house area in the first part of the video. Team members frequently turn their backs to the girls and our other animal residents because in the wild, having your back to a predator automatically makes you easy prey, since you "can't see" them. This usually insights stalking and pouncing, and is wonderful enrichment!
The sisters came from our Colorado Project in 2016. They were just cubs at the time and have stuck together since! It's rare to see one without the other- generally, if Louisa or Marissa approaches a "victim" solo, the other will run to join her!

*Q: If you're a true sanctuary, why is there that concrete area? :/
A: The concrete shown at the beginning and middle of the video is only a small part of the girls' habitat. It's what we call their "night house" or "den" area. Per USDA guidelines, our animals must sleep inside their dens at night. Their dens also provide them heat in the winter, coolness in the summer, and a place to "hang out" should they want to. They have 24/7 den access. The area around the den is made of concrete because it is where they eat and since they are locked inside at night, also where they use the restroom. The concrete makes it easy to clean and prevent the build-up of germs- healthy animals are happy animals!
